It’s been stated before, and if need be, will be again. Steroids are merely ‘part of the game.’ That was shown to ring true once again when Terry Bradshaw admitted in an interview that he and other players on the Pittsburgh Steelers championship teams used steroids.
Bradshaw indicated during an interview with Dan Patrick on ESPN Radio that the drugs were obtained from a doctor’s prescription and were used to “get away the aches and pains” and to “speed up the healing process,” and that they were not taken to get “bigger and stronger and faster.” When referring to the use of steroids, Bradshaw used the term “we.” (more…)

The New York Jets have named Matt Higgins Executive Vice President of Business Operations, Thad Sheely as Executive Vice President of Stadium Development and Finance and Mike Tannenbaum as Executive Vice President/General Manager. All three will report directly to Jets Chairman and CEO Woody Johnson. The announcement was made by Johnson.
Jay Cross, who served as the Jets president for the past eight years, has accepted a position as President of Related Hudson Yards.
“I appreciate all of Jay’s contributions for the past eight years, particularly his efforts to build a new stadium for the New York Jets and a new home in Florham Park,” said Johnson. “This is an exciting time for the New York Jets. We have assembled a strong management team over the last several years and this structure maintains continuity and stability as we proceed with our plans to relocate to the state-of-the-art Atlantic Health Jets Training Center this fall and into the New Meadowlands Stadium in 2010.”
Higgins enters his fifth season with the Jets and will oversee all elements of business operations, including marketing, sponsorships, legal, human resources, public affairs, merchandising, internet and broadcasting opportunities. He was initially hired as vice president of strategic planning in 2004 and promoted to vice president of public affairs in 2006 prior to being elevated to senior vice president of business operations in 2007.
Sheely enters his eighth season with the Jets and will be responsible for the team finances, all matters related to the construction of the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center and the new stadium as well as information technology, ticketing operations and the analysis of new business ventures. Sheely originally joined the Jets as vice president of stadium development before being elevated to senior vice president of finance in 2007.
Tannenbaum enters his 12th season with the Jets and will continue to manage all football operations, including the coaching staff, pro and college scouting, salary cap management, video and football technologies, equipment, training and medical personnel. Tannenbaum initially joined the team as director of player contracts in 1997, was promoted to assistant general manager in 2001 and named general manager in 2006.

Apparent Telephone Miscommunication Led to Designation
Terrell Owens is a magnet for attention, with the majority of it being negative. On the heels of the wideout signing a $34 million, four-year contract extension with the Dallas Cowboys, he has been placed in the NFL’s “reasonable cause” testing program for performance-enhancing drugs. Although Owens has never failed a drug test, his failure to make himself available for a screening was the reason why he is in this situation.
According to Owens, it was a miscommunication over cell phone numbers which caused him to miss the notification from the league. He has met with league representatives to explain the situation, but the NFL refused to comment due to confidentiality requirements in regards to the program. Owens will be subject to up to six offseason tests.

Steroids Dealer Meets on the Q-T with Football Security Officials
Football fans may be staring downfield at a ‘Mitchell Report’ of their own after a convicted Texas steroids dealer met with NFL security officials recently.
David Jacobs of Plano reportedly gave the delegation names of individuals that he sold anabolic steroids and human growth hormone to. In separate meetings that took place since May 1, Jacobs provided documentation to substantiate his claims.
One of the players named was New Orleans Saints offensive lineman Matt Lehr, who was playing in Atlanta at the time of the alleged purchases. Lehr’s attorney did not comment, even after Jacobs, 35, publicly accused his client. (more…)
