This summer has been an exciting one, with the New York Yankees surging back into contention in the American League East and Mets tickets looking like possible playoff tickets since just before the All Star break.

The fall is coming though, and after baseball dies down after the World Series football is the King of New York. Many people want tickets to Giants Stadium, whether to watch the New York Jets or the Super Bowl champion New York Giants.

The supposed lesser of the two, the Jets, are poised to make a surprising run. People forget that just two years ago the Jets were in the playoffs with the same record as the Giants last season. Two seasons may seem to be an eternity, especially in football where a season of physical punishment takes established players from starters to backups often, but the Jets seemed determined to recreate the magic that came with Eric Mangini’s first season as head coach.

Nose tackle Kris Jenkins, outside linebacker Calvin Pace, and rookie outside linebacker Vernon Ghaston should provide plenty of playmaking ability on defense. The offensive line was fixed with the addition of two starting guards, Alan Faneca and Damien Woody.

The addition of big Tony Richardson at fullback should open up a lot more holes for Thomas Jones. Of course Jones was never much of a fulltime back. His greatest success always came when he shared the load with quick third year running back Leon Washington.

The running game should be much improved. Last season it tried carry a team without any passing game. The New York Jets should be able to take pressure of the quarterback with the improved running game and an improved offensive line that will actually give the quarterback, whoever it is, time to throw the ball.
