The New York Jets have signed WR Britt Davis to the practice squad.  The announcement was made by Jets General Manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Davis (6-3/205/Northern Illinois/Melrose Park, IL) originally signed with the Jets as a rookie free agent on May 1, 2009 and was waived on Sept. 5.  During the preseason, Davis caught five receptions for 54 yards.  At Northern Illinois, he finished his career fifth on the NIU all-time charts for career catches with 146 and totaled 1,676 receiving yards, 2,063 all-purpose yards and nine career touchdowns.

The New York Jets have signed LB Kenwin Cummings to the active roster from the practice squad. The announcement was made by Jets General Manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Cummings (6-3/250/Wingate/Maxton, NC), was signed to the practice squad on Sept. 7, 2009.  He originally signed with the Jets on May 2, 2008 as an undrafted free agent and was inactive for the 2008 season opener at Miami. He was waived on Sept. 10 and signed to the practice squad on Sept. 16 where he spent the remainder of the season.

The New York Jets have waived DB Ahmad Carroll. The announcement was made by Jets General Manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Carroll (5-10/190/Arkansas/Atlanta, GA), who was signed by the Jets as a free agent on July 22, 2008, played in 22 games for the Jets, recording 30 special teams tackles. Originally the 25th overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft by Green Bay, Carroll has appeared in 57 career games for the Packers, Jaguars and Jets, registering three sacks and three interceptions.

The New York Jets have signed free agent LB Craig Kobel and have waived LB Nate Harris and DL Brian Schaefering. The announcements were made by Jets General Manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Kobel (South Florida/Lake Worth, FL/6-2/265) played 2008 with the Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League. He was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles on Jan. 23, 2007 and released on Aug. 28. He also played for Cologne in NFL Europa in 2007 and the AFL’s Utah Blaze in 2006.

Harris (Louisville/Miami, FL/6-0/230), was originally signed as a free agent on Feb. 19, 2009 after being waived by the Kansas City Chiefs on July 25, 2008. In 2007 he played in 15 games, tallying two solo tackles on defense and leading the Chiefs with 20 special teams tackles.

Schaefering (Lindenwood/St. Louis, MO/6-5/295), was signed to the Jets practice squad on Dec. 17, 2008.  Prior to the Jets, Schaefering was waived by the Browns on Aug. 26, 2008 after spending a portion of training camp in Cleveland.

The New York Jets have signed free agent P Reggie Hodges and waived P Eric Wilbur. The announcement was made by Jets General Manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Hodges (6-0, 235/Ball State/Champaign, IL) originally signed to the Jets active roster on Sept. 7, 2008, punting 12 games in 2008. He compiled a 42.8 average on 44 punts, with a 35.5 net average and 23 punts inside-the-20 yard-line. He was on released on April 27, 2009. In his career, he has punted in 20 games for the Rams, Eagles and Jets, with a career average of 40.2 on 85 punts with a net of 33.9. Hodges was originally drafted in the sixth round of the 2005 NFL Draft (210th overall) by the St. Louis Rams. He appeared in five games for the Rams, before he was waived Oct. 10. He then signed with the Eagles on Nov. 2 and appeared in three games, before he was waived Nov. 22. Hodges participated in training camp for the Colts in 2006 and 2007 and for the Seahawks in 2008.

Wilbur (6-2, 200/Florida/Orlando, FL) signed with the Jets as a free agent, April 15, 2009. He originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Houston Texans on May 4, 2007 and was released July 23. He also was signed and released by the Jacksonville Jaguars, Aug. 8, 2007. Wilbur became the first punter at the University of Florida to be named a semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award. He concluded his collegiate career first in school history in punting yardage (9,900), attempts (231) and second in average (42.9), producing 39 punts of 50-or-more yards.

The New York Jets have waived rookie FB Brannan Southerland. The announcement was made by Jets General Manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Southerland (Georgia/Dacula, GA/6-0/244), originally signed as an undrafted free agent on May 1, was a blocking fullback for Georgia. He finished his college career with 171 yards and 17 touchdowns, and 35 catches for 289 yards with six touchdowns.

The New York Jets have announced the signing of free agent DT Anthony Harris (Western New Mexico/Rollins Fork, MS/6-3/287) and undrafted free agent TE Jack Simmons (Minnesota/Libertyville, IL/6-4/246). The announcements were made by Jets General Manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Harris, a defensive lineman with long-snapping experience, signed with Carolina before the 2008 season but was waived before training camp. He last played for the Rock River (IL) Raptors of the CIFL indoor league. In 13 games in 2008, he logged 25 tackles (eight for loss) and a safety, adding seven hurries, 1.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries. As a senior at Western New Mexico University in 2004, he had 41 tackles, including 8.5 for loss (33 yards), and 5.5 sacks.

Simmons, a three-year starter at Minnesota who appeared in 41 games, finished his collegiate career with 73 receptions for 762 yards and three touchdowns. In 2008, he caught 34 passes for 331 yards with two touchdowns, earning second-team All-Big Ten honors from the media and honorable mention from the coaches, while also being selected as an Academic All-Big Ten honoree.

Mason led the NFL in rushing during the 2008 preseason with 317 rushing yards. He was inactive for seven games during the 2008 season before being waived by the Jets and signed to the practice squad.

The New York Jets have re-signed free agent OT Michael Kracalik. The announcement was made by Jets General Manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Kracalik (6-8, 337/San Diego State/San Diego, CA) spent the past three seasons with the Baltimore Ravens (2006-08), where he played in four games. He was originally signed by the Jets in 2005 and was waived after training camp. He played in 10 games for the Rhein Fire (NFL Europe) in 2006, starting three games at tackle.
