The Jets announced today the launch of “Barking with Bart”, a weekly program broadcast on Jets TV, the internet video channel ofnewyorkjets.com. Scott, known as the “Madbacker” for wreaking havoc on the field, is taking his bark off the field for this new show and it is all for a good cause.

“The subject of the show is to not just talk about football but to talk about the events going on in society and also to give back,” Scott said. “I’m excited that all the proceeds from this show will be given out to charity. We have an exciting format where people can submit their causes and we’ll see if we can support that.”

Scott, whose foundation is named A Son Never Forgets, will make small-impact grants courtesy of the program to worthy charities.  The team has set up an email address —

scottcharity@newyorkjets.com for viewers to submit charities for consideration.  All charitable requests must include the following information: a 501(c)3 Tax ID Number, a sampling of programs and a statement of what one would do with a small grant from Bart Scott. Bart will pick his first winner on air next week.

Known as the “Madbacker” because of his distaste for opponents, Scott joins Eric Allen in the Green & White broadcast studios (and sometimes on location) to talk Jets, football and life.  Tourism Toronto is sponsoring the program as Scott and the Jets are scheduled to visit Toronto, Canada, on Thursday, Dec. 3, in a nationally televised AFC East showdown against the Buffalo Bills.   Fans can book tickets and trip packages now at seetorontonow.com/jets or by calling Jets Getaways at 212-391-TRIP.

Encouraging fan barks as well, the Jets have created a new email address — bscott@newyorkjets.com — so viewers can write in and select comments and questions will be read and answered on-air.

“Barking with Bart” will be available to fans on most Tuesdays throughout the regular season and the program will also always be available in the website archive.  View the most recent installment, below: http://www.newyorkjets.com/news/multimedia/video/1766-barking-with-bart-week-4-with-the-madbacker

While Trade was a No-Brainer, Let’s Not Anoint Him Broadway Just Yet

You can’t go home again. That old saying rang true when Brett Favre had the door to Green Bay slammed in his face. The same place where he used to walk on water – and the Frozen Tundra – at first tried to be subtle in telling the grizzled veteran quarterback that they were all better off if he stayed away. But Favre wouldn’t accept that and forced a trade, one that even he called “unique” and surprising.

Perhaps the most unlikely of suitors were the Jets, and that’s exactly how this thing played out. When Favre was introduced during a hurried press conference in Cleveland, he, general manager Mike Tannenbaum and team owner Woody Johnson all appeared as if they stayed at the biggest party of the summer too late – exhausted, but glad that they did it.

“Did I ever think that this scenario would present itself?” Favre asked himself. “No.” That may be attributed to the fact that the legendary signal-caller would have preferred staying a Packer or being dealt within the NFC North. Neither was in the cards, so he finds himself in New York…er, New Jersey. (more…)

Jets Chairman and CEO Woody Johnson today announced that the team will return to Long Island on an annual basis during training camp.

“Long Island and Long Island fans are a part of our DNA,” said Johnson. “We want to ensure that the bond remains as strong as it is today. That’s why I am proud to announce our plans to return each year for at least one practice during training camp.”

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Jets training at Hofstra. The team’s headquarters will move to the state-of-the-art Atlantic Health Jets Training Center in Florham Park, NJ in early September.

The New York Jets and New York Mets have rescheduled Jets Night at Shea for Tuesday, July 8 as the Mets host the San Francisco Giants. Jets Night at Shea – originally scheduled for Monday, April 28 – was postponed due to inclement weather. Fans holding tickets from the April 28 game wishing to attend the July 8 Jets Night at Shea should follow the standard rain-check ticket exchange policy on Mets.com. Tickets for the April 28 game will not be valid for the July 8 game.

Former Jets Pro Bowler Wesley Walker, Marty Lyons – member of the fearsome New York Sack Exchange and Jets radio analyst, Jets linebacker legend Greg Buttle, and Super Bowl III Champions Emerson Boozer, Randy Beverly and John Schmitt will return to Shea Stadium. These players and others will appear at a 5:30 p.m. pre-game fundraiser in Shea’s Picnic Area to benefit area charities through the Mets Foundation and New York Jets Foundation. A limited number of tickets to the Picnic Area Meet and Greet are $20 and are on sale now at Mets.com.

The Mets will salute their former Shea housemates – both teams won World Championships in 1969 – during an on-field, pre-game ceremony including the first pitch and the Shea Countdown of games to be played in its final season. It will also include in-game video programming, and the opportunity for fans to have their photos taken with both the Mets’ and Jets’ 1969 World Championship trophies. The New York Jets Flight Crew will be on hand with the Jets’ traveling, interactive Generation JetsFest adjacent to Shea and will join Mr. Met and the Pepsi Party Patrol for various promotions and giveaways throughout the game.

The Jets and Mets played at the Polo Grounds – the former home of the New York Giants baseball team before they left for San Francisco – the Jets for four seasons (three as the New York Titans) and the Mets for two seasons, before moving into Shea Stadium in 1964. The Jets last played at Shea in 1983 before moving to the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, N.J. Both the Mets and Jets are constructing new facilities. Citi Field, the new Mets home, will open in 2009; the New Meadowlands Stadium is scheduled to open in 2010.
